Sebastian Vettel took the Red Bull - Renault to the top of the time sheets for the second consecutive day of the final pre-season tests held in Catalunya, Spain this week. His best time of 1m21.865s, set at the beginning of a 5 lap run, was 0.531s quicker than the next fastest car, Sebastian Buemi in the sister Red Bull team, Scuderia Toro Rosso - Ferrari.
Vettel eclipsed the previous best time of 1m22.544s, set a day earlier by his team mate, Mark Webber on a single lap run by 0.679s.
Red Bull are setting the benchmarks for the rest of the field with 2 days of consistently fast lap times and solid reliability. Don't be fooled by the cautious optimism from the team though, as every team wants to be in the position that Red Bull is currently.
With an increasing number of cars on the track, ambient and track temperatures increasing as winter backs away and the track slowly rubbering in, lap times should generally improve over the course of this week's tests. Add to this the continuous improvement in the car setups for each team and we are in for some interesting results this week.
